Sunday, 25.05.2003 17:50h MET New version of OGMCalc is out! This version allows you to use fractions of CDs and some minor glitches are fixed. Enjoy!
Saturday, 24.05.2003 00:50h MET I wrote a tiny OGM/XviD bitrate calculator. I hope it's useful for some other people as well. You can download it here (6kb).
23:30h MET There was a small flaw in ogmcalc which made it impossible to add ac3/mp3/... files. It's fixed now, download the new binary (old link above though).
Wednesday, 14.05.2003 20:00h MET SysKin tweaked a lot with his code, finally we have rate-distortion based VHQ modes which increase PSNR. My build has a tweaked lambda value which gave us nearly the same file size shrinking capabilities like the old VHQ code. SysKin also ported trellis r-d based quatisation from dev-api-4 to cvs-head, so if you use the h.263 matrix you can benefit of this, too.
Saturday, 03.05.2003 15:30h MET New XviD build - sysKin tweaked the internal thresholds a little and fixed a small bug.
Sunday, 05.04.2003 17:30h MET The new XviD build has some major improvements, specially for P4-Users. Give it a try!
Tuesday, 25.03.2003 17:30h MET After 2 weeks I finally uploaded a new XviD unstable build. I tested it the last 3 days and I'm very satisfied with the results, sysKin's bframes fix works like charme. The image quality is very stable with bframes now.
Sunday, 09.03.2003 11:00h MET The development branches of XviD got all mixed up, but finally I use the HEAD branch of the XviD CVS now. Sorry for the delay. For the better news, the A/V-synch issues are solved - they were caused by the new core behaviour, it didn't insert the 0x7f-frames which are necessary for virtualdub to properly drop pad frames.
Tuesday, 18.02.2003 10:40h MET SysKin implemented a better workaround for the darkblock bug - at least it works perfect for me, so I decided to make the binary public. Enjoy!
Saturday, 15.02.2003 08:00h MET Suxen_drol made chroma optimization an xvid-option via flags, so I added VfW support for it (see the debug-tab). Chroma optimization interpolates colour information in very bright or dark areas which helps stair effects on edges a bit.
Friday, 14.02.2003 14:40h MET SysKin hacked some code into XviD which could help the "dark block flickering" issue in bframe enabled encodes. Be warned: This isn't a real fix! It can break things and might produce new artefacts!
Monday, 03.02.2003 20:35h MET Finally correctly fixed the 2pass problem. Now your videos should be in synch as well again.
Monday, 27.01.2003 07:40h MET I hacked an ugly fix for 2pass curve treatment with bframes activated for the unstable developer build. Now the file size issue should be resolved.
Friday, 24.01.2003 13:20h MET With the new XviD unstable binary everything should be back to normal.
Wednesday, 15.01.2003 08:55h MET The latest XviD developer binary includes some nice 2 warppoint GMC code from gruel. It's yet to be tweaked, but test it anyways, it shouldn't harm the bitstream at least. The crash bug has finally been tracked down.
Friday, 03.01.2003 18:15h MET Happy new year! Again, a new XviD binary is up. Should be a bit faster now as sysKin rewrote motion compensation, and suxendrol added some missing EMMS statements. Maybe _now_ the crashes that can be observed with virtualdub and virtualdubmod are solved?
Sunday, 29.12.2002 02:50h MET Jaan Kalda sent me some fixed xmm code which I used to compile the latest unstable XviD binary. It should fix the crashing-issue which we observed at quantizers > 19.
13:45h MET The file sent by Jaan didn't help the crashes, I now tried to disable xmm/3dne for quant4_inter (by forcing it to mmx). I updated the xvid standalone decoder from Nic, it's working correctly now again. It is also included in the new xvid development (thus unstable) build.
Tuesday, 24.12.2002 21:15h MET Merry Christmas everyone! My present for you is a new XviD developer build which hopefully has some issues resolved (like crashing when using credits options for encoding). I also updated the standalone decoder to Nic's latest version. Enjoy!
Friday, 19.12.2002 01:50h MET I got many complaints that I didn't release a new binary yet - ok, here you go, but I didn't test the built yet, let's hope everything's fine with it.
Saturday, 14.12.2002 22:10h MET The news page grew really big - and with so many page hits this produces a lot of traffic. So I decided to split up the news page in monthly news. To see the old news, follow the link on the bottom.
Tuesday, 10.12.2002 07:20h MET It's been a while without new binary, so I decided to put the newest developer binary online. It has some nice new features which you should try.
Tuesday, 03.12.2002 10:20h MET Small fixes for the unstable XviD build: lumi masking should now really produce no random spots, and the binary is compiled with old optimizations as they were faster.
Monday, 02.12.2002 22:20h MET New unstable developer XviD build with plenty additions: dynamic halfpel/ quarterpel decision, refdivx' lumi masking code is fixed,... and some other addons which I forgot about already!
